- Eric A. Smith earned his journalism BA at the University of North Carolina. A former science reporter in Research Triangle Park, NC, and IT instructor in Canada, the US and Japan, he's traveled to some of the most beautiful, exotic places in the world, climbed mountains, run casino games on a Mississippi riverboat, and sung and drummed for rock and roll bands. He's met some of the world's most famous actors, directors, politicians, inventors, poets, writers, musicians and scientists, and learned whatever wisdom they were willing to impart to along the way. He is also a certified PC field service technician, with CDI, A+, Network+ and MCP tickets, and is a proud founding member of the open voting consortium. In Canada, he has been a digital prepress instructor teaching Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, Pagemaker and Flash. He currently works as a freelance writer and instructor.

One of the reasons conservatives engage in banter with liberals is because their faith is so shaky.
You realize, of course, that the neoconservatives would carpet the entire country in plastic cut down every last tree and dump radioactive waste in every lake if it earned them a few fistfuls of dollars don't you?
Man, you need to OPEN YOUR EYES! The planet is DYING, and the liberals, the ones who fought for YOUR liberties, for minimum wages, for labor laws, for environmental protection, for personal privacy, for government transparency, for food safety, for abolishing mandatory drafts, etc. etc., are the ones desperately trying to keep us all from dying horribly. It's not too late to wake up; someday you'll learn the truth, and a great, deep sadness will overwhelm your heart when you realize how you were duped and used.
No idea what "dumping the flag" means.
But if you ever read Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, The Federalist Papers, quotes by George Washington, hell, even the Declaration of Independence, you'd very quickly realize they all ECHO the values liberals espouse - EXACTLY counter to the policies and philosophies of the right wing - particularly Dick Cheney and his horrific assault on the human liberties so many TRUE patriots fought and died for.
People DIED to protect YOU from such things as being forced into razor-wired detention zones when you tried to exercise your constitutionally-guaranteed right to peaceably assemble to petition the government for redress, or from being thrown in prison without the right to a speedy and fair trial, or to publicly wear a t-shirt that expresses your political views without being tasered, handcuffed, beaten and detained.
The very things that are supposed to make America the "Land of the Free" are what the right has been systematically dismantling, and you SUPPORT this and call it "PATRIOTISM"?!?
Think, son, THINK.
