As the era of smash and grab governance comes to a close with astonishing speed -- closer to a balloon's deflation than the supernova of destructive self-immolation we feared -- two particularly insightful editorials have been crafted, clarifying brilliantly what has come to pass lo these past twelve years as the saner set blink our eyes in momentary disorientation at the blinding light of renewed hope and honesty.
Folks, we made it.
Although the massive work of repairing the damage has yet to begin, already the air tastes sweeter, cleaner, fresher.
For now, we have escaped the Orwellian master plan.
For now we have averted imminent nuclear holocaust.
For now, we have lifted the death sentence upon the majority of life on the planet.
Perhaps there is something to all that "Higher Being" malarky after all.
